Kairagefuchi Bangaku

Location: Kairagefuchi, Noshiro City
Site(s) of performance: Kairagefuchi Shinmei Shrine
Date(s): August 13
Category: Shishimai and Bangaku
According to legend, Kairagefuchi Bangaku was initiated by the survivors of the Taira family after their defeat in the Battle of Dan-no-ura in 1185. It thus has much in common with Nekko Bangaku, which was also founded by survivors of the Taira family (in the former Ani Town). This bangaku has been considered part of the Shinto rituals of celebratory speech, which should bring peace, a good harvest, and health and longevity. All dances are performed with masks. Narration is added. The dance is of a wild character and there is no female dance.
