After the rice planting and the first round of weeding, a yatai float (Kashima ship) goes around the community with music (hayashi) and people put their small Kashima dolls on the yatai float. After collecting all the Kashima dolls, the Kashima ship should be allowed to float away in the river, and this was done in the past.
