Shagiri is a Shinto festival with lively music and dance. It does not have a clear starting date but is probably a development of the music performed by a shugen (ascetic) in the mountains to repel evil spirits. Shagiri means ‘shutting out.’ The wheeled performing stage is pulled by adults, but the performance was to be conducted by children. It starts from Hachiman Shrine and after going around the community comes back to the shrine.
