Nishikigi-Furukawa Ōdaiko (Nishikigi-Furukawa Big Drums)

Location: Nishikigi, Towada, Kazuno City
Site(s) of performance: Inari Shrine
Date(s): August 7 and 14
Category: Taiko-Furyū and Matsuri-Bayashi
This is an ōdaiko (big drum) performance presented at the Suzukizuka Festival and Obon Festival. The drummer holds a big drum with a strap and beats it with a stick in each hand. Usually an assistant follows the drummer. The big drum performance of Nishikigi is said to be different from other big drum performances in neighboring communities in costume and music style. For this reason, Nishikigi-Furukawa Ōdaiko used to be closed to outsiders.
