This is a kind of celebratory song. It is always sung at rituals, on New Year’s day, and on other occasions of celebration. In the Edo era, there were frequent navigations of ships along the coasts of the Sea of Japan. Some seamen from Noto Province (present-day Ishikawa Prefecture) once arrived at the port of Furuyuki (in the former Honjo City) and sang this song as a celebratory song.
