The origin goes back to the relegation of Lord Satake to Akita. It is now called the Kami-Funagi Horse Dance, but there used to be a lion dance as well. That lion head used then is still kept in the community. In the old days, the performance of the lion dance ended with the killing of the lion and its purification with sacred sake.
